WESTERN STYLES

Lomi Lomi

Lomilomi is a massage form stemming from the beautiful tradition and culture of the Hawaiian Islands. Your body experiences the loving touch of Aloha, becomes calm and comes into its own natural, harmonic rhythm. Vital life energy (Mana in Hawaiian) flows through your entire body, tensions will ease and good health will be stimulated as the deep strokes of your therapist's hands and arms ebb and flow like the ocean.

Hot Stone

The use of hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times. Your therapist will place water heated, smooth, flat stones on key points of the body while also utilzing them to accompany their hands with traditional massage techniques. The stones create an enveloping warmth in the body promoting the natural flow of energy, relaxing muscles, and melting tension away.

Sports & Sports Injury

Sports Massage is used before, during and after athletic events. It enhances athletic performance by keeping the body at peak flexibility and strength, while preventing and treating injury. Massage after exertion reduces stiffness and soreness. For some it helps ward off anxiety before competition. The use of deep tissue, mobilization and stretching techniques will increase stimulation in the body before an event. Regular sports massage, even outside of an event, has been shown to improve speed, strength, endurance, flexibility, and shorten recovery time.

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues.  It is specially helpful for chronic muscle tension and extremely contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.  Some of the same strokes as swedish massage are used, however this style includes deep compression with slower movement and deeper pressure concentrating on areas of tension and pain.

Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial release is a style of massage focusing on the connective tissues, or fascia, of the body.  Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into restrictions that are sometimes created in the myofascia. It is used to eliminate pain and restore motion to the body. It is a therapy used to treat a wide variety of soft tissue complaints including but not limited to back strains and Chronic back pain as well as fibromyalgia and sciatica.

Swedish

Swedish is the most commonly known when referring to massage and tends to be the basis of other western styles.  It uses a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure while increasing circulation, releasing toxins and flushing the bodies tissues of lactic acid and other metabolic wastes.  Swedish involves the use of kneading, broad stroking, friction, effleurage, petrissage, vibration as well as passive stretching while providing relief from tension and stress in the body.

EASTERN STYLES

Shiatsu

The underlying philosophy of Shiatsu (acupuncture without needles) is that vital life energy (Ki) flows throughout the body along a series of channels called meridians.  For many different reasons, Ki can be blocked or hindered from flowing freely, becoming imbalanced and producing a negative symptom or pattern in the body. Your therapist will consider your state of health, your symptoms, depending on your bodies constitution and general energy levels, will use a variety of techniques to improve your energy flow.  These include gentle holding, pressing with palms, fingers, elbows, knees and even feet on the meridians.  When appropriate, your therapist may utilize more dynamic rotations and stretching as well.

Thai Yoga Massage

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing art system based on Buddhist spiritual practice, indigenous Thai Medicine, an the science of Yoga.  It is a wonderful combination of therapeutic stretching, joint mobilization, acupressure, energy balancing, deep rythmic tissue compression, applied Yoga Asana, and meditation.  A soothing, meditative, rocking motion is its trademark; while joints are opened, muscles and tendons stretched, internal organs toned, vitality increased and energy balanced; bringing about a deep state of relaxation, rejuvination, and well-being.

Moxa: Herbal Heat Therapy

Moxa therapy is often used in conjunction with Acupuncture, as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  However, some say it actually predates Acupuncture.  During a session, Moxa (dried Chinese Mugwort) is burnt, like incense, over the body's meridian points and combined with simple massage techniques to increase heat in the body. The result being increased and balanced energy (Ki) as well as the release of chronic tension and relaxation and "melting away" of knots.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a healing art that dates back to Ancient Egypt. The theory works on the principal that there are reflexes in the feet, hands, face and ears that correspond to all the body's organs and systems, and that by applying pressure to those reflexes you can bring the body back into balance.  Reflexology is fantastic for overall health and to learn more about your body, diet and lifestyle.  It can show where health imbalances in the body are including organs, joints and soft tissues by creating calcium deposits in certain areas of the feet.
